Lessons Provided

Basic Lesson

In this foundational lesson, we focus on basic vehicle operation and control. Students learn essential skills like starting, stopping, lane control, following distance, and passing. We emphasize good observation techniques and ensure that students have a thorough understanding of all vehicle controls and warning lights. The lesson also covers backward paths, orientation to driving, and initial techniques in scanning for, recognizing, and responding to obstacles. Additionally, students practice concepts such as merge vs. yield, SMOG, and Gap-Gauge-Go.

Freeway and Downtown Lesson

This lesson marks a significant milestone for most students as they travel to and from downtown St. Paul or Minneapolis via the freeway. Downtown, students perform turns with multiple turn lanes onto one-way and two-way streets, covering crosswalks, pedestrian interactions, and Right on Red turns in detail. Freeway driving emphasizes lane changes, weaving lanes, and navigating exit and entrance ramps, including both cloverleaf and diamond interchanges. Students also learn how to interact safely with commercial motor vehicles, strategies for perceiving and responding to adverse conditions, and handling special conditions and emergencies as described in subpart 2, item D.

Parking Lesson

In this lesson, students become proficient at parallel and 90-degree corner back parking. They also learn proper procedures for hill parking and parking lot protocols. The lesson includes a review of the Road Test driving maneuvers, a written evaluation, self-evaluation, and a plan for future improvement. Students receive their White Card, the course completion card, which must be presented at the Road Test.
